Pirate Ship Day with Babies and Toddlers in Side
A toddler can come on either pirate day for nothing. What the day asks of you is planning: sun cover, a nap that may not happen, food and the swim.
In short
Babies and toddlers under 2 ride free on both the pirate-ship day and Little Pirates. A parent stays with them the whole time, because the crew runs games and does not look after children. If you need a stroller on board or anyone in your party moves with difficulty, tell us before you book so the operator can decide.
What a day on deck asks of a very small guest
Either day lasts about 6 hours from the hotel and back. For a baby that means a morning and part of an afternoon away from the cot, the room and the usual rhythm. Many families manage it well; it helps to go in knowing that the day is lively. The big day has a live show, music and a foam party, and Little Pirates has games, stories and a treasure hunt running around the deck.
We have no record of how much shade the deck offers, so pack your own: a wide hat, a light long-sleeved top and high-SPF sunscreen, which the operator asks every family to bring anyway.
Naps, noise and a quiet corner
A toddler who naps after lunch may drop off on a lap, in a carrier, or not at all. Bring whatever settles yours: a muslin, a dummy, a small toy. If the music on the big day is too much, the gentler rhythm of Little Pirates may suit a sleepy child better; our comparison of the two days sets out how each one runs.
- A carrier or sling frees your hands on deck.
- Spare clothes for each child, including a dry set for the ride home.
- Nappies, wipes and a bag for the used ones.
- A favourite cup and something familiar to hold.
Lunch and food for little ones
On the big day the children's menu runs to spaghetti, fish fingers or chicken fingers. Little Pirates serves a lunch of children's favourites on board. Snacks beyond the lunch and every drink are not in the fare. If your toddler eats something special, such as baby food or a particular milk, tell us when you book and we will ask the operator what you can bring. The lunch guide has more on the menu.
The swim, with a toddler in your arms
The big day stops at the delta, where the river's chilly fresh water spills into the warm Mediterranean; Little Pirates stops to swim in clear water off the coast. Whether a small child goes in is your call, and it is always with a grown-up holding on. Swim nappies, a towel each and a dry set of clothes make the return easier. Our swimming guide describes both stops.
Expecting a baby, travelling with a stroller, or a family member uses a wheelchair? Ask us before you book. The operator decides case by case.
